A slow cooker pork shoulder recipe with a secret ingredient … Coca-Cola!

Ingredients

  • 10 lb Whole Pork Shoulder (ask the butcher to cut the full pork shoulder in half at the meat counter)
  • 4 cloves crushed garlic
  • 2 medium yellow onions, chopped
  • 2  tsp kosher sea salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp ground sage
  • ½ tsp paprika
  • 17 oz. can of La Morena Chipotle Chiles in Adobo Sauce
  • 27.5 oz. cans of Coca-Cola
  • 3 cups of water

Instructions

  1. Trim the any excess fat from the pork shoulder. Place the pork shoulder in a slow cooker crock.
  2. Add salt, black pepper, ground cumin, ground sage, and paprika. Rub the spices into the pork shoulder with your hands.
  3. Add 1 ½ chopped yellow onions and 2 cloves of crushed garlic.
  4. Place the remaining onion and crushed garlic into a blender with one 7 oz. can of La Morena Chipotle Chiles in Adobo Sauce. Blend until smooth.
  5. Pour the mixture on top of the pork shoulder.
  6. Pour two 7.5 oz. cans of Coca-Cola into the slow cooker crock.
  7. Pour 3 cups of water into the slow cooker crock.
  8. Turn the slow cooker to “low” for 7 to 8 hours or until the meat breaks apart with a fork.
