A delicious Mexican take on chili dogs. You can make these 100% on the grill, including the chili, making them perfect for tailgating.

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs beef flank steak, thin sliced (carne para asar)
  • 2 – 24 oz. jars HERDEZ® Salsa Casera
  • 1 lime, juiced
  • 2 TBSP carne asada steak seasoning
  • 1 TBSP olive oil
  • 1 yellow onion
  • 1 packet of chili seasoning mix
  • 1 – 6 oz. can tomato paste
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 pack all-beef hot dogs
  • 1 pack hot dog buns
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 red onion, diced
  • salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Mix 1 jar of HERDEZ® Salsa Casera with the lime juice and carne asada steak seasoning. Rub into flank steak. Refrigerate at least 1 hour to marinate.
  2. Place the steak over direct heat on a medium high grill.
  3. Cook steak until medium, about 6 minutes per side.
  4. Remove the steak from the grill and dice.
  5. Place a cast iron skillet on the grill.
  6. Add olive oil to the skillet.
  7. Add yellow onions and cook until translucent.
  8. Add salt to taste.
  9. Add steak, chili spice mix, the second jar of HERDEZ® Salsa Casera, tomato paste, and 1 cup of beef broth.
  10. Stir to mix. Simmer for 15 minutes until the chili thickens.
  11. While the chili is cooking, grill the hot dogs and buns.
  12. Remove the chili from grill.
  13. Place hot dogs in buns and spoon chili over top. Add onions and shredded cheese to eat chili dog as desired.
