How to Make Bookmarks, Two Ways

This post contains affiliate links and product was provided by sponsors. All opinions are my own.

They know me so well. They sent me cat stamps! They obviously really really like crazy cat ladies. Teehee. I totally love these fun cat stamps from Art Impressions and was really excited to receive them and use them along with the Tombow Dual Brush Pens and Colored Pencils that Tombow sent me earlier this year for today's hope with Art Impressions and Tombow! Since I spend so much time coloring and lettering with Tombow's Dual Brush Pens, I thought it might be a fun change to color these fun cat images using colored pencils. I created two different types of bookmarks using the Art Impressions stamps and the Tombow recycled Colored Pencils, making a perfect fun gift for a crazy cat lady in your life. Send her off to college with these bookmarks, gift them to a teach who loves cats, or just spread the cat-world-domination love by placing these in a book in the book store. That's totally not creepy AT ALL. Cat ladies will totally love you.

Use a masking technique with stamps to create a repeating, overlapped pattern with any stamp. These cat bookmarks were made with this technique and then colored with colored pencils.

The first bookmark is the traditional rectangle bookmark with rounded corners and a tassel at the top. I used a masking technique to stamp and an all-over pattern on the paper and then colored the images with colored pencils. The second bookmark style is made from envelopes and one stamped image, cut out from paper. Here's how I made the two types of bookmarks:

Aren't those fun?! I suppose you could use other stamps to make these bookmarks but why would you?

I especially love that you can use the colored pencils to color the stamped image to look like a real life cat that you own or have owned in the past. I definitely was channeling my memories of Marshmallow as well as a little 1970s Garfield in the making of these bookmarks.

  11. CUTE & CLEVER idea for 2 types of bookmarks! For “cat lovers” these must be FAB! Both are creatively done with stamps & colored in sections using colored pencils. I like the corner page bookmark the best. I plan to make similar bookmarks for birthday gifts for my 16 great nieces and nephews ages 2 to 12 (7 families). THANKS for sharing. Sarah in Minneapolis

  12. This is the most adorable project – very creative use of the stamp for stacking!!! I am a cat lady and I would love it if someone gifted me with that. I’m so sad i’m in Canada 🙁 Shipping is a bit steep.

  13. OMG these are adorable! Hello, fellow cat lady 😀 I’ve seen corner bookmarks made out of fabric that’s been sewn, but I hadn’t come across ones made from envelopes. What do you do with the rest of the envelope, though, once the corners are removed? I don’t want to be wasteful, which is why I’m asking. I also hadn’t considered using stamps for bookmarks, because I’ve mostly just been planning to draw them, but that’s a really great idea, too. Blessings!
