Earlier this year I got a new kitty, Sonic. Initially, he struggled to find his place in the house with Princess Butterball, I mean Adventure Kitty, ruling the roost so to speak. She is in charge and Sonic just had to figure out where to slink away in the shadows, which is when he discovered a love of baskets. One of Sonic's favorite hiding places has been in a shallow basket that sat tucked under tables or on top of an architectural divider. I decided to make a custom pet pillow to fit the basket so Sonic would have a comfy place to lay. It's a cat bed in a basket! Our cats are a part of our family, with all of their eccentricities, so it is important to us to make sure they get natural nutrition daily. That's why we chose Purina Muse®. With Muse® you don’t have to choose between natural nutrition and food that tastes great. Your cat can have both when you choose Muse®.

Natural has never been so delicious. Put Purina Muse® Natural Cat Food to the test with our clean plate guarantee. Sonic totally cleaned his plate and then some. We tried several flavors of Purina Muse® Natural Cat Food, all of which he loved. I'd show you a photo of the clean plate but he was actually licking it so much that it slid across the floor and chipped! Guess I need to move towards a metal dish… LOL!

I picked up several varieties of Purina Muse® Natural Cat Food at PetSmart, which is the only place you can get it. It's not hard to choose what food to get your favorite kitty – there are 24 grain-free varieties and 30 delicious recipes, all made with real fish or poultry.

The big differentiator for Purina Muse® Natural Cat Food is taste. And from how Sonic was licking his chops, I can tell that he agrees! We tried the Paté and with Toppers varieties of Purina Muse®, both of which Sonic enjoyed and finished completely. And then he took a nap…

We put the new cat bed and basket in the living room just under the fireplace (which we don't use). We surrounded it with all of Sonic's favorite toys so he'd feel like this is his little space. I think one of the reasons Sonic loves this basket is because he can stretch out in it. Past cat beds have been round and the only way the cat fits is to curl up in a ball. We've been remodeling the house and he even found the basket in the chaos and curled up in it for a nap!

Since he chewed the corner of the basket, I decided it's just gonna be his. I sewed a custom fleece pillow with a zipper so the stuffing can be removed, the cover can be washed, and the stuffing replaced as needed.

This bed goes together really quick, much like sewing a standard zippered pillow. Measure a basket or the place you want to put the bed to make the pillow custom-fit. Yeah, it already has cat hair on it because he has been laying in it non-stop since I made it. I guess he likes it. He also needs to be brushed…

Gather the following supplies to create the in-basket pet bed:

  • 1 yard fleece fabric
  • 1 spool of thread
  • 1 sports zipper, 12″ to 18″ long
  • 1 bag of loose batting or a standard pillow form
  • 1 basket

  • sewing machine, with zipper foot
  • scissors
  • seam ripper
  • pins
  • measuring tape

  1. Your kitty is so handsome! Our kitties are spoiled. I made a cat bed out of a box and a t-shirt. Sometimes they use it. They are cats, what can you expect? I had never heard of Muse. I will get some for my cats to see if they like it. They eat Purina One. Purina is the best brand. Love the tutorial!
